Thanks for Voting:
Big shout out to everyone who worked so hard to get me elected and to all of you who made a special effort to get out and vote, whether you voted for me or not. The right to vote, and to vote for whomever you choose, is a fundamental right of Canadians. We have other fundamental rights: as citizens, we expect to be treated fairly and equally under the law, no matter our heritage; we expect our governments to respect our property rights; we expect our governments to act in a transparent manner and stand accountable to the people who elected them. The main reason I ran for election to our local government is my concern about recent challenges to some of these fundamental rights .
These rights are not only what we can claim from our government, but they are also the foundation of our society, the assumptions that allow us to live and work together in peace and harmony. When elected representatives wander from their commitment to these responsibilities, they need to be reminded of what we expect of them and our intention to hold them accountable. The ballot box serves this purpose for us.
I will be a strong and determined voice delivering the views of Area A electors at the board table of the Sunshine Coast Regional District. I look forward to getting necessary projects completed in a timely manner. These projects will deliver what we all want from our government--things like ensuring a reliable water supply, encouraging affordable housing and rental accommodation, cleaning up our beautiful waterways and making sure we can drive on and walk along our roadways without fear for our lives.
All very basic things worth striving for. I will do my best to make these things happen, and with your active support I think we can do it.
